Why upload pictures to Flickr and disable the High Resolution download? Or this BS

Because the smaller the resolution, the smaller the probability of the picture being stolen and used unauthorised commercially.

Even if you should choose "view all dimensions" (or such), you can click the biggest one and right click to download it. The protection against download only works in the Flickr's slideshow.
